Early Childhood Literacy Programs:

We strive to grow your child’s early literacy skills by providing programs that enhance social and emotional development, develop their listening and communication skills, encourage their creativity, and help them learn about the world around them.

  • Toddler Tales: Story Hour for Toddlers
    Join us for a delightful story hour specially designed for children ages 3 and under. This engaging session will feature captivating stories, interactive songs, and fun crafts or activities. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to foster a love of reading and creativity in your little ones! Every Wednesday & Friday at 10:00 am (with the exception of the first Friday of the month).

  • Storytime: Story Hour for Preschoolers
    Join us for an engaging and interactive story hour specifically tailored for kids aged 3 to 5. Delight in an assortment of captivating stories, cheerful songs, and fun crafts or activities designed to foster creativity and learning. Every Wednesday and & Friday at 11:00 am (with the exception of the first Friday of the month).

  • Love on a Leash: Bring your little ones to the library and cuddle up with Love on a Leash therapy dogs during Storytime! It's a wonderful opportunity for children to not only enjoy a good story but also interact with these gentle and friendly furry friends. The first Saturday of each month at 1:00 pm.

  • Music & Movement: Get your little ones moving and grooving with Ms. Carrie, parent educator for the Parents as Teachers program and Appalachian Early Childhood Network board member, after Storytime! Join us for an energetic and fun-filled session designed to keep those young minds and bodies active. The first Friday of the month at 10:00 am.

  • Pep & Pizzazz: Dance along with Ms. Britani, the lively and enthusiastic studio owner of Pep & Pizzazz: Dance, Gymnastics, Ninja, Cheer. Join us after Toddler Tales and Storytime for a fun and energetic experience that will ignite your child's love for movement and dancing. The second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 am and 11:00 am.

  • Story Corner with Baby Cow: Baby Cow, the lovable Chick-fil-A mascot, makes a special appearance as children gather for an engaging story and craft at Chick-fil-A Somerset. The second Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am, and again at 5:30 pm.

After-School Programs:

Our after-school programs are targeted towards school age children up to 12 years old. Attending programming at the library contributes to literacy development all while improving social skills and providing children with sense of belonging. These programs are held on rotating Thursdays each month at 4:00 pm. Please refer to our calendar for dates.

  • American Girl: Learn about American Girl in an engaging and interactive way. Enjoy a delicious snack while listening to an excerpt from the featured book and take part in a fun craft or activity that relates to the American Girl of the month. It's a fantastic opportunity for all children to learn and have a great time!

  • Don’t Forget Your Passport: Travel the world each month as part of this unique educational program. Immerse yourself in the captivating cultures and rich histories of different countries, savor snacks that reflect their culinary traditions, and get creative as you craft items that embody the essence of each diverse nation.

  • Educational classes with Olivia Immitt: Olivia — Outreach Specialist of Soul Song Solutions and former National Park Ranger — blends her expertise in science and art to create an enriching educational experience for all who attend her programs.

  • STEAM Club: Children will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on crafts and activities that integrate the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).


Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by Dolly Parton. Designed to improve literacy and school-readiness in children under 5 years of age, every enrolled child under 5 will receive one high-quality, age-appropriate book per month delivered to their home mailing address at no cost to the child’s family. The Pulaski County affiliate is replicating this program for residents of Pulaski County Kentucky. The Pulaski County affiliate does not discriminate on race, sex, religion, or economic status.
